Enabling rich community among adoptive and foster families is at the core of Mosaic’s purpose. Monthly and bi-monthly small groups serve to connect people in the Manhattan area in a comfortable and nurturing environment so that encouragement, education, and support can be given and received in the most natural way possible. Mosaic has a variety of small groups to meet the specific needs of each of our unique families.
Waiting Families Group
The waiting families group is a perfect environment for couples and singles to encourage and teach each other during the exciting but difficult waiting period before placement. The group is comprised of foster families, domestic and international adoptive families, as well as those who are just thinking about fostering or adopting. The format is casual and seeks to give parents a chance to discuss specific needs, but usually involves a loosely led discussion around a specific topic. The waiting families group meets at the Sheffields on the second Thursday evening of every month, next meeting on May 12. Childcare is available at a different location. Contact Karen Sheffield at 785.776.3712 or kssheffield@hotmail.com for more information.
Playgroup
This informal monthly meet-up gives moms of young children a chance to connect at a local park or indoor play area. The group meets on the first week of every month, next meeting on May 5. Contact Tara Gallagher at taragallagher@cox.net for more information.
Book Study Group
This diverse group welcomes couples and singles wanting to study and discuss post-placement issues. We plan to work through a book and study guide, beginning later this year with Karyn Purvis’ The Connected Child. This community is also available to meet needs, encourage, and pray for each other. Meeting time and location will be announced at a later date. Childcare is provided a different location. Contact Carrie Beyer at 817.201.6450 or carrie@mosaicofmanhattan.org for more information.
Moms’ Night Out
Starting this summer, moms and moms-to-be will get out to laugh and chat over cups of coffee at one of the local coffee shops. There’s no formal discussion — just a chance to connect with other women who have been where you are. Contact Amy Brox at 785.236.9219 or dnaksu@yahoo.com for more information.
Dads’ Dinner Night
This laid-back bi-monthly outing sends dads and dads-to-be out for the best BBQ or burgers in Manhattan (or whatever other man-food they’re hungry for). They discuss adoption or whatever else is on their minds. The group will meet at a regular time every other month, beginning later this year. Contact Kyle Beyer at 817.675.5317 or kyle.beyer@gmail.com for more information.
